The BYU Cougars and the Texas Longhorns face off on Monday in Kansas City in college basketball action.
The BYU Cougars are coming off of their first loss of the year as they fell to Iowa State but they stand at 4-1. The Cougars have one of the higher powered offenses in the nation as they are averaging close to 100 points per game. Tyler Haws is lighting it up for Brigham Young averaging 26.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Matt Carlino is averaging 18.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, Eric Mika is averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds, Kyle Collinsworth is averaging 12.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, and Anson Wider is averaging 11.4 points. BYU is averaging 97.2 points and they are shooting 49.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 85.2 points and their opponents shoot 43.6 percent.

The Texas Longhorns are off to a 4-0 start and once again Rick Barnes ahs a roster full of talent. The Longhorns have done a solid job on the boards so far and it appears to be the strength of this unit. Jonathan Holmes is averaging 15 points and six rebounds to lead UT. Demarcus Holland is averaging 11 points and 6 rebounds, Connor Lammert is averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds, and Isaiah Taylor is averaging 10.5 points while Texas will be without Javan Felix who is injured. Texas is averaging 80.2 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 68.2 points and their opponents are shooting 43.6 percent.
BYU is 9-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 0-6 against the spread against the Big 12, and 5-2-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Texas is 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 neutral site games.
While Texas has talent I just don’t see them stacking up to BYU in this one and I look for the Cougars to win this one by double digits.
