The East Carolina Pirates clash with the North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs in an NIT Tip-off contest.

North Carolina Asheville came in to the NIT Tip-off opener looking to right the ship from a slow start but continued to struggle in a 73-56 loss to Rhode Island. The Bulldogs are in a rebuilding mode with a ton of talent lost from a year ago and it appears this team needs time to get their scoring and defense on the same page. Rhode Island nailed their shots at 49% with UNCA connecting at 44% but the better shooting team mustered ten more looks and put them to good use. The Asheville offense was a two man attack with Jaron Lane and Andrew Rowsey pouring in 17 points apiece with nine rebounds.

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

East Carolina came in to the NIT Tip-off looking to make a name for themselves as their program hasn't drawn much attention. It's still to early to say what the future holds for the Pirates but we know they are head and tails better then McNeese State who was routed 91-62. The Cowboys knew this was going to be a long night with ECU jumping to a 14 point lead heading in to the locker room before picking up where they left off in the second. East Carolina fired away at nearly 52% while limiting McNeese to less then 38%. ECU also went 14-26 from beyond the arc to dominate the perimeter as well as the paint. Akeem Richmond led five DD scorers with 25 points with Paris Roberts-Campbell tossing in 16. Michael Zangari added 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Caleb White and Brandan Stith combined for 21 points.

The line has yet to be released but there is no doubt which team will be favored. The question is will it be reasonable enough to play it...
