The Houston Cougars and the Texas Tech Red Raiders face off on Tuesday in Brooklyn in college basketball action.
The Houston Cougars went toe-too-toe with Stanford on Monday but in the end the Cardinal were too much for them as they lost by double-digits. The loss was Houston’s first of the season though they have played a relatively light schedule. TaShawn Thomas leads Houston averaging 17.7 points, 12 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks per game. Danuel House is averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, L.J. Rose is averaging 12 points and 5.2 assists, and Jherrod Stiggers is averaging 9.0 points. Houston is averaging 77.3 points and they are shooting 47.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.5 points and their opponents shoot 41.4 percent. Houston’s defense should keep them in a lot of games this season.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were finished early on Monday as they were blown out in the first half by Pittsburgh. It was the second loss of the season for the Red Raiders and it is one they will need to put in their rear view mirror in a hurry. Jaye Crockett leads the TTU averaging 13.8 points and .3 rebounds per game. Jordan Tolbert is averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, Robert Turner is averaging 11.3 points, and Dusty Hannahs is averaging 10 points. Texas Tech is averaging 71.5 points and they are shooting 48.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.7 points and their opponents shoot 42 percent. Tubby Smith has gotten it done everywhere he has been so Texas Tech has to believe he can do it there as well.
Houston is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games, 4-1 against the spread against the Big 12, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games. Texas Tech is 4-1 against the spread following a loss by 20 or more points, 7-17 against the spread in their last 24 non-conference games, and 1-8 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
The total is set at 147 and I have it right around that number with a lean to the under and that will be my free pick. My much stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as making it available on the App.
