The San Diego Torreros and North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans face off in the loser's bracket of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
North Carolina-Greensboro was off to a decent 3-1 start but we didn't know what this team was capable of because the competition was on the weak side. Louisiana Tech proved to be a huge step up in talent with the scoreboard telling that story in a 99-62 rout that was almost over at the half with the Bulldogs leading by 15. The Spartans simply struggled to get stops with La Tech blistering the nets at 63% while countering with with 39% which was decisive with the Bulldogs sinking 15 more field goals. Jordan Potts was the Spartans leading scorer with 13 points while the duo of Kayel Locke and RJ White tossed in ten points each.

I saw San Diego coming in to the Gulf Coast Showcase and said to myself this is an improving club from what I have seen in the past. Then the Torreros promptly fall to Illinois-Chicago and I'm thinking maybe this isn't a good team and their record is based on the level of competition. The defense defended the shot well enough with the Flames connecting at 41.5% but their own 38% was not enough to get the job done with UIC making an extra shot or two which was all this boiled down to with most stats fairly even. Johnny Dee led all scorers with 19 points followed by Duda Sanadze with 14 points and five boards while Dennis Kramer and Christopher Anderson added 13 points apiece but none of the top contributors approached 50% shooting.
No line out yet but San Diego will be favored although we now know to be cautious. Neither impressed in the tournament opener so if this is low enough I might go with the Torreros even though sitting this out might be the best way to go...(San Diego is favored again but I don't know if I could bet either)
