The Syracuse Orange and the Cal Golden Bears face off on Tuesday in a Semi-Final game in the Maui Invitational college basketball tournament.
The Syracuse Orange were forced to fight for a full 40 minutes but they battled to a win over Minnesota. Syracuse has shot poorly from the free throw line this season but they shot well on Monday and that was the difference maker for them. C.J. Fair leads the Orange averaging 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and one block per game. Trevor Cooney is averaging 13.2 points and 2.8 steals, Jerami Grant is averaging 11.8 points and 7.3 rebounds, and Tyler Ennis is averaging 8.6 points and 4.0 assists. Syracuse is averaging 74.2 points per game and they are shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, 32.9 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 65.5 percent from the free throw line while defensively they allow 60.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.4 percent. Syracuse is dominating the boards this season by a 30 percent margin over their opponents.

The Cal Golden Bears are off to a 5-0 start to the season and they reached this game by beating Arkansas on Monday. Cal took a close game and blew it open as they never allowed Arkansas to get close in the second half. Jabari Bird leads Cal averaging 13.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Justin Cobbs is averaging 12 points and six assists, Tyrone Wallace is averaging 11.4 points, David Kravish is averaging 11.2 points and 8.8 rebounds, and Richard Solomon is averaging 11 points and 11.4 rebounds. Cal is averaging 76.8 points per game and they are shooting 45.6 percent from the floor, 37.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 67.4 percent from the free throw line while defensively they allow 59.6 points and their opponents shoot 35 percent. Cal has plenty of options on offense and playing Solomon on Monday after his third foul was a risk they took that paid off bug for them in the win.
Syracuse is 14-5 against the spread in their last 19 Tuesday games and 2-5 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread. Cal is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, 4-1 against the spread following a win, and 1-5 against the spread against the ACC.
The line has Syracuse laying four in this one but until I see them consistently hitting their free throws it is tough for me to lay more than two with the Cuse.
