The Dayton Flyers and the Cal Golden Bears face off on Wednesday in Maui in college basketball tournament action.
The Dayton Flyers looked to have knocked off their second ranked opponent in as many nights when they had Baylor down by double digits on Tuesday but they were unable to hold on for the win and took a one-point loss. Even with the loss Dayton still has a win over Gonzaga under their belts and gets a shot at a good Cal team here. Jordan Sibert leads UD averaging 16.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Devin Oliver is averaging 13 points and 6.5 rebounds, Dyshawn Pierre is averaging 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds, and Khari Price is averaging 11 points. As a team Dayton is averaging 76.8 points and they are shooting 46.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.7 points and their opponents are shooting 44.2 percent. Dayton has already proved they can play with anyone this season.

The Cal Golden Bears were tied with Syracuse at halftime on Tuesday but they couldn’t keep up in the second half falling to the Orange. Cal knocked off a good Arkansas team on Monday and they are apparently going to be competitive in the Pac-12 this year. Jabari Bird is averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds to lead the Bears. Justin Cobbs is averaging 13 points, 6.7 assists, and 1.5 steals, Richard Solomon is averaging 11 points and 11.4 rebounds, David Kravish is averaging 11.8 points and 7.5 rebounds, and Tyrone Wallace is averaging 11 points. As a team Cal is averaging 77.5 points and they are shooting 46.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents shoot 38.1 percent from the floor. This should be a big time defensive battle as both teams play solid defense.
Dayton is 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall. Cal is 4-0 against the spread against the A-10, 5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games.
Cal is favored by one here and this one should come right down to the wire as the defenses are that good, it is whoeve hits the big shot, ich translates to I am not playing it. I know Dayton is dflated but this could be huge for them in March and they know it so look for the Flyers to be up to the task.
