The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Indiana State Sycamores clash in a Great Alaska Shootout opener.
Tulsa is still looking for their first victory of the young season as they head to the great Alaska Shootout. The schedule hasn't been a cake walk with back to back losses to Wichita State and Creighton with the Bluejays taking an 82-72 decision last time out. The defense struggled with Creighton sinking shots at 52% with Tulsa responding with 43% accuracy. The game was decided on the perimeter where the Bluejays held an 11-5 edge on threes. Rashad Smith poured in a team best 21 points with five yanks followed by an 18 point effort from Patrick Swilling Jr while James Woodard and Tim Peete combined for 20 points and eleven rebounds.

Indiana State is predicted to be a challenger in the Missouri Valley if they can find a way to unseat Wichita State. However the Sycamores have to figure out a way to win on the road which they did not do versus Belmont but did against Notre Dame. ISU has won consecutive games after easing by Truman State 80-69 despite allowing the Bulldogs to hit almost 57% from the floor. The Sycamores countered with 54% marksmanship and turned 22 Bulldogs fouls in to an 18-11 advantage at the stripe for the winning margin. Justin Gant paced the Indiana State offense with 23 points with Devonte Brown turning in a 13 point, seven pull, five assist performance followed by Manny Arop and Demetrius Moore with ten points apiece.
I think Tulsa is better then they have shown which makes me think it's just a matter of time before they exxplode. For now I'll back the Sycamores and sleep on it...
