The Villanova Wildcats and the USC Trojans face off on Thursday in the Bahamas in college basketball tournament action.
The Villanova Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start to the season as they begin their first season as members of the new Big East. Jay Wright’s Wildcats are coming off of a tough few yeaars and are hoping to return to the national scene. JaVaughn Pinkston averages 20.2 points and 3.5 rebounds to lead the Cats. James Bell averages 18 points and 7.0 rebounds, Darrun Hilliard is averaging 14 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, and Ryan Arcidiacono averages 9.5 points. The Villanova offense is averaging 81.8 points and they are shooting 46.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.5 points and their opponents are shooting 36.7 percent. Villanova has played the 331st ranked schedule in the nation but it is projected to be at 41 by the end of the season.

The USC Trojans lost their first game of season but have gone on to win their next four. USC has played the 111th ranked schedule but it is projected to get to 10th by the time the season is over. Byron Wesley leads the Trojans averaging 19.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Omar Oraby is averaging 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds, J.T. Terrell is averaging 10 points, and Nikola Jovanovic is averaging 8 points. USC is averaging 75.2 points and they are shooting 46.1 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 67.8 points and their opponents are shooting 36.6 percent. USC hasn’t played in over a week at this point.
Villanova is 11-5 against the spread following a win, 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. USC is 1-3-1 against the spread following a win, 3-9-1 against the spread in their last 13 non-conference games, and 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a winning percentage over .600.
With the line at 10.5 it just looks a shade too high and I will take the poits in what is really a lean.
