The Green Bay Phoenix face the Pepperdine Waves in the Great Alaska Shootout.
Many are of the belief that defensive minded Phoenix will challenge for the top spot in the Horizon. There is no way to tell if that's an accurate assessment after a handful of games but a three point loss to Wisconsin says it's possible. Green Bay bounced back fro the defeat to the Badgers by pounding MINN-Duluth 92-57 behind an offense that burned the nets at over 57% shooting with the defense limiting the Bulldogs to a mere 27%. GB grabbed 18 more rebounds and sank 13 more shots and were unchallenged from the opening tip. Keifer Sykes poured in a game high 21 points with Alec Brown and Vincent Garrett scoring 15 each with Brown hauling in ten boards while Carrington Love tossed in 13.

At 4-1 Pepperdine is off to one of their best starts with plenty of scoring and not a whole lot of defense which has been an issue in the past. As I say this the Waves come in off their lowest scoring affair of the young season in downing Utah Valley 58-53. The offense connected at just 42% which was still much better then the Wolverines 31.7%. The Wolverines totaled 17 more attempts thanks to 15 Pepperdine giveaways which was a mute point with their shooting struggles. The Waves only had a pair of double digit scorers in Brendan Lane who tossed in eleven points and snagged ten rebounds followed by Nikolas Skouen with ten but that was enough ten players finding the scoring column with the Waves running an eleven man rotation.
This boils down to whether the Green Bay defense can control Pepperdine's scoring. I think they will but the spread seems a bit high and leaves room for a cover...
