The Ole Miss Rebels and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face off on Friday in Brooklyn in college basketball action.
The Ole Miss Rebels are off to a 4-0 start but thus far they haven’t been tested by any kind of competition. Andy Kennedy’s team has played the 346th ranked schedule in the country but it is going to get much tougher in a hurry. Jarvis Summers leads the Rebels so far as he is averaging 17.2 points and 3.8 assists. Derrick Millinghaus is averaging 15.5 points, Marshall Henderson is averaging 14 points, and Aaron Jones is averaging 7.5 points and 8.8 rebounds. Ole Miss is averaging 84 points and they are shooting 44 percent while defensively they are allowing 64 points and their opponents are shooting 36.2 percent. Ole Miss went to the NCAA Tournament last season and they are hoping to get back there again this year.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets used to be NCAA Tournament regulars but as of late they have struggled to just be competitive. Brian Gregory’s team has started the season 5-1 and look to be improved but they have played the 339th ranked schedule in the nation. Trae Golden has transferred in from Tennessee and he is averaging 14.8 points and 3.8 assists per game to lead GT. Marcus Georges-Hunt is averaging 13 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals, Daniel Miller is averaging 12 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks, and Robert Carter is averaging 9.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game. Georgia Tech is averaging 77 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents shoot 37.5 percent. Georgia Tech will have plenty of chances against top-level competition this year.
Ole Miss is 5-1 against the spread following a win, 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Georgia Tech is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games, 7-21 against the spread following a win, and 14-29-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
While I see Georgia Tech as being improved I don’t see them as improved enough as Mississippi has too many weapons.
