The Denver Pioneers face the Harvard Crimson for the first time to kick off the Great Alaska Shootout.
Harvard was out to prove that they have the ammunition to take the Ivy League with their 4-0 start before Colorado reeled them in with a 70-62 set back. The Buffaloes were easily their toughest foe to date but the Crimson appeared up to the task with a 12 point lead heading to the locker room. Colorado regrouped with a 40-20 second half flurry and Harvard was left to ponder what could have been. The Crimson hit at 37% from the floor with CU sinking shots at a 45.5% pace while owning a +15 on the glass with five more makes at the line. Four staters reached DD in scoring led by a 13 point, nine rebound night by Steve Moundou-Missi with Syani Chambers with 12 and Kyle Casy with eleven while Laurent Rivard tossed in ten points.

If we go by the only two games Denver has played we would say the team is going to be in trouble having been out scored 143-107 but two games doesn't make a season. The Pioneers are penciled in as one of the favorites in the Summit League so I know they will rebound. DU dropped the opener to Cal before falling to Stanford 66-57 with 42% shooting and 18 turnovers hurting them. The Pioneers were forced to foul eventually and the Cardinal held a 23-15 edge while hitting a little better then 45% from the floor. Chris Udofia was the only player to crack ten points with 20 while grabbing ten rebounds and blocking five shots on 7-9 shooting. The duo of Cam Griffin and Nate Engesser each contributed eight points in the seven man rotation.
My thoughts are Harvard looks tough thus far and Denver not so much but if they are supposed to be a contender then we should see a close battle where the points should be the way to go and if they get blown out they are over rated in my eyes so we shall see...
