The Xavier Musketeers try to rebound from a 64-49 loss to Tennessee when they face the USC Trojans in the seventh-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament Saturday.
Xavier (5-2) shot 40 percent from the field but could only manage 49 points and their high man, 6-10 junior C Matt Stainbrook, scored 10 points and grabbed 5 boards, while leading scorer sophomore G Semaj Christon, who averages 16 ppg, was held to just 4 points on 28 percent shooting. The Musketeers, who beat Tennessee 67-62 Nov. 12, were on the short end of a 31-14 run over 14 minutes that saw the Volunteers take a 47-29 lead and begin to pull away. Xavier cut the lead to 15 points several times in the second half but could get no closer. The Musketeers hit 4 of 11 three pointers in the game and 3 of 10 from the free throw line.

USC comes into the contest with a record of 4-3 and off of a 77-63 loss to Wake Forest Friday. The Trojans were held to 39 percent shooting in the game, made just 5 of 25 from downtown and 10 of 19 from the foul line. Junior G Byron Wesley scored a team-high 12 point on 45 percent from the field and added 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman F Roschon Prince had 10 points and 4 rebounds and senior G Pe’Shon Howard added 10 points and 4 rebounds. On the season, USC is averaging 75.8 ppg on 45 percent from shooting and Wesley leads the team in scoring with an average of 19 points per contest.
The line for this one favors Xavier by 11 points and that sounds about right as USC got manhadled by its only two opponents of note, Villanova and Wake Forest, while Xavier beat Tennessee once and took Iowa to OT. The Musketeers cover.
