The Mercer Bears pay a visit to the Oklahoma Sooners in Monday evening action.
Mercer hasn't played a schedule laced with easy wins so I'd say their 5-3 start isn't a bad way to begin the season. The Bears have been led by better then average scoring although opponents haven't had a hard time scoring the basketball. Defense was optional in the Bears 117-108 overtime decision over Valparaiso with both teams connecting at around 47%. The Mercer defense did play a role with 20 forced turnovers but the scoring was center stage with a 10-21 effort on threes with a 35-29 advantage at the stripe. Jakob Gollon poured in a game high 37 points with Bud Thomas adding 23 while Ike Nwamu and Daniel Coursey tossed in 14 and 13 points.

Oklahoma hasn't been shy a putting the ball in the basket and neither the opposition but the Sooners have been better at it as their 5-1 record attests. The Sooners rebounded from their first loss of the season to pound Arkansas-Little Rock 101-81 as they took a 14 point lead at the break and were never challenged. OU out shot the Trojans 46.5%-40% with 12 bombs and and seven more field goals carrying the day. All five starters reached double figures in scoring with Cameron Clark tossing in a game best 22 points and grabbing eight boards while Buddy Hield added 17 points. Jordan Woodard was next in line with 16 points followed by Isaiah Cousins with 14 points and an eleven point, ten rebound performance by Ryan Spangler.
Mercer might be a bit over their heads here especially at Oklahoma where the Sooners can be extra tough. I wanted to take a look at the total but it isn't out yet so I'm going with the points although I expected more...
