The Utah Utes travel to Boise State to play the Broncos on Tuesday night.
Utah improved to 6-0 on the year after beating Ball State 88-69 last week. In the win, the Utes shot an impressive 56.1% from the field and 40% from long-distance. Junior G Delon Wright led the way for Utah, scoring 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while also dishing out 7 assists and grabbing five steals. Junior F Princeton Onwas added 13 points and 10 rebounds in his first start of the year, while sophomore F chipped in with 17 points and 5 assists to keep the Utes perfect on the season. Utah dominated in the paint, outscoring the Cardinals 44-24. The Utes also imposed their will in transition, outscoring Ball State 16-2 in fast-break points and scoring 18 points off 15 turnovers. Utah has some quick guards and most of their opponents thus far have not been able to handle their speed on both sides of the court. The Utes will have their toughest test of the season on Tuesday night. Not only is it their first road game of the year, they are playing an un-defeated Boise State squad.
USA TODAY Sports
The Boise State Broncos are 6-0 on the year after beating Portland State 76-60 last week. Senior F Ryan Watkins and junior G Derrick Marks both scored 14 points to keep the Broncos undefeated on the year through six games. The 76 points were a season-low total for the Broncos, who entered the game as the top-scoring team in the nation with an average of 102 points per contest. Boise State also had their worst shooting performance of the season from three-point range, making only 4 of 16 from behind the arc. Coach Leon Rice’s team entered the game shooting 46% from long-distance and making an average of almost 10 three-pointers per game. Not only are the Broncos a great shooting team from the field, they made 22 of 25 attempts from the foul line in their last game. Boise State can score quickly, but they can also give up a ton of points, as three of their opponents have scored at least 80 points so far this season. This will also be Boise State’s toughest game of the season. They have played 4 games at home this season and have blown every team out.
Utah has won two out of the last three meetings between these two teams, including a 21 point win at Boise State last year. Boise State has played well at home not only this year, but in the past as well. The Broncos will try to pick the pace of the game up, which is not a problem for Utah. The Utes don’t mind running up and down the floor and a fast pace and I think they can hold their own in this one. I’ll take Utah to keep this game close down to the final few minutes.
