The Creighton Bluejays travel to Long Beach State to play the 49ers on Tuesday night.
Creighton dropped to 5-2 on the year after losing to George Washington 60-53 on Sunday. The Bluejays started off the year 5-0, but have now dropped two straight games. In the loss the George Washington, Creighton shot 33.9% from the field and 28% from beyond the arc. The Bluejays entered the game shooting nearly 50% from the field, but Creighton struggled offensively from the start. Creighton’s 53 points was the lowest point total of the season thus far. Senior F Doug McDermott, who came in averaging nearly 28 points per game but finished with seven, ended his streak of eight consecutive games with 20 or more points that dated back to last season. The last time McDermott was held to single digits was back in January. On the year, McDermott is also averaging a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game, while senior F Ethan Wragge is averaging 11.7 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. The Bluejays have been giving up a ton of points early on, failing to hold any of their opponents under 60 points this season. Creighton will try to get back the right track against a struggling Long Beach State squad Tuesday.

Long Beach State dropped to 1-7 on the year after losing in double-overtime at Washington 92-89 on Saturday. The 49ers have dropped 7 straight games since winning their season-opener. Against Washington, the 49ers shot a solid 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range in the loss. Long Beach State had an eight-point lead with six minutes left in regulation, but the 49ers struggled down the stretch. Junior G Mike Caffey scored 28 points and dished out 9 assists for Long Beach State, while junior G A.J. Spencer scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. On the year, Caffey is leading the team with 16.6 points and 4.5 assists per game. Senior F Dan Jennings has a team-high 8.9 rebounds per contest, while chipping in with 12.4 points per game. The 49ers are allowing teams to score a ton of points against them this year, with six of their opponents scoring over 70 points already this season. Long Beach State will have their work cut out for them at home on Tuesday night against a offensive minded squad.
These two teams played last year at Long Beach State and Creighton came away with a 2 point win in a high-scoring game. The 49ers are a mess right now, while Creighton is a good team looking to get back to their winning ways. I think the Bluejays come away with the win in this one, but Long Beach State has the firepower offensively to keep it close and cover the spread in a high scoring contest.
