The South Florida Bulls try to halt their two-game skid when they travel to Virginia Wednesday to take on the George Mason Patriots.
South Florida won its first four games before dropping two straight in a 93-67 rout against Oklahoma State Nov. 25 and 65-60 against Detroit Saturday night in a game where sharpshooting was nowhere near the building. The Bulls shot just 38 percent from the field and 16 percent from distance, while the Titans shot an ice-cold 32 percent from the field and 18 percent from beyond the arc. Detroit, however, trumped its 19 of 58 shooting with a 44-35 rebounding advantage and connected on 25 of 28 from the foul line to South Florida’s 15 of 23 from the stripe. Senior G Martino Brock had a game-high 16 points on 7 of 12 from the floor and added 3 rebounds and 3 assists and senior F Victor Rudd had 11 points, 9 rebounds and made 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Through six games, the Bulls are averaging 72.8 ppg on 44 percent shooting and Rudd leads the team with 14.2 ppg on 41 percent from the floor and 35 percent from distance.

Meanwhile, George Mason comes in with a record of 5-2 and off a 61-54 victory over Rhode Island Saturday that went down to the wire. Senior G Byron Allen gave the Patriots the lead for good on a driving layup with 38 seconds left. George Mason shot 42 percent from the field, 18 percent from beyond the arc and connected on 17 of 26 from the free throw line. On the season, the patriots average 66.4 ppg on 44 percent shooting and senior G Sherrod Wright leads the team in scoring with 16.9 ppg on 48 percent from the floor and 35 percent from distance.
George Mason opened up a 4.5 point home favorite in this one and their two losses to Princeton and Iona have somehow been less impressive than South Florida’s two losses to Ok State and Detroit. The Bulls also come in with more points and rebounds per contest. South Florida and the points look like the play here.
