The Marist Red Foxes travel to the Hynes Athletic Center to open up conference action with the Iona Gaels.
As someone who has followed the MAAC I can say that Marist has been a team whose best chance at winning depends on controlling the scoreboard. The Red Foxes don't possess a big offense and the defense has been scored on which explains their record. A golden opportunity to grab their first win went by the wayside in 74-67 overtime loss at Morgan State. This one was very close despite the Bears 45% shooting with Marist countering with just 36%. Three more bombs and 16 offensive rebounds accounted for a few more shots but at the final gun the misses took a toll. Jay Bowie led the Marist scoring with 22 points with Chavaughn Lewis tossing in 15 while Adam Kemp added 12 and Khallid Hart 10.

It's a different year but the same Iona in that everything is fast paced with plenty of end to end action. The Gaels score a ton of points and tend to give them up but at the end of the day the method works with the team shooting for a third straight tournament bid. Florida Gul Coast received a first hand look at this offense in a 90-72 loss. The Gaels burned the nets with 56% marksmanship including a 14-27 mark from distance to easily over shadow the Eagles 49% accuracy and their seven bombs. Tre Bowman paced the Iona scorefest with a game high 29 points with Sean Armand adding 20 more followed by AJ English and a 13 point, five board, six assist performance while David Laury chipped in with ten points and seven rebounds.
Marist doesn't win in this match up and won't this time either but they do cover so I'm leaning a bit to the points even though this sets up perfectly to be a rout. Bottom line is I don't like either at this number so I'll go with the dog...
