The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Maryland Terrapins face off in college basketball on Wednesday in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge
The Ohio State Buckeyes are off to 6-0 start and while the expectation would be for a drop off after years of success in Columbus, it just hasn’t been the case thus far. OSU Has won all of their games by double digits but Thad Matta’s team has played the 117th ranked schedule in the nation. Aaron Craft is the leader of the Buckeyes averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Lenzelle Smith Jr. is averaging 11.3 points and 4.8 rebounds, Amir Williams is averaging 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds, and Shannon Scott is averaging 11 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 steals. Ohio State is averaging 74.5 points and they are shooting 46.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 53.3 points and their opponents shoot 35.3 percent. Ohio State begins Big Ten play on December 31st.

The Maryland Terrapins have two losses this season but they have won their last four games in a row. Maryland has played the 191st ranked schedule but they do have a tournament win beating Providence in the final. Jake Layman leads the Terps averaging 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Evan Smotrycz is averaging 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds, Dezmine Wells is averaging 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds, and Nick Faust and Charles Mitchell are both averaging 9.6 points per game. Maryland is averaging 74.3 points and they are shooting 45.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.1 points and their opponents are shooting 38.7 percent. Maryland doesn’t appear to be a contender this season but they have already shown they have the ability to surprise a few teams.
Ohio State is 5-0 against the spread against the ACC, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games. Maryland is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven road games, 11-2 against the spread in their last 13 games overall, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games.
Don’t look for Maryland to be intimidated here and while Ohio State has a strong team, cover point spreads hasn’t been something they have been good at recently so look for this one to be no difference as the Buckeyes more than likely win the game and Maryland covers the spread.
