The Kansas State Wildcats try to hand the Ole Miss Rebels their first loss when they welcome them to Fred Bramlage Coliseum Thursday night.
The Rebels come in off a 79-76 win over Penn State in the title game of the Barclays Center Classic Saturday. Senior G Marshall Henderson scored a team-high 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting and connected on 4 of 9 from beyond the arc, while junior G Jarvis Summers added 19 points and 5 assists on 70 percent from the field and hit 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Ole Miss led by as many as 10 points in the first half behind two three-pointers from Henderson, but the Nittany Lions trimmed the lead to 5 points by the halfway point. Penn State jumped out early in the second half and led much of the way until Henderson put the Rebels up for good on a jumper at the 5:43 mark. Through six games, Ole Miss is averaging 82 ppg on 44 percent shooting and Summers leads the team in scoring with 15.7 ppg on 53 percent from the floor and 50 percent from distance.

Kansas State, meanwhile, is 4-3 and winners in two of their last three, including an 87-54 thrashing of Central Arkansas Sunday. The Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc and connected on 19 of 28 from the free throw line. K-State broke the game open on an early 12-2 run that put enough distance between them and the Bears that the Wildcats held a double-digit lead from the 16:27 mark throughout. Senior G Shane Southwell had a game-high 19 points on 57 percent shooting and added 6 reounds, while junior F Thomas Gipson had 17 points and 6 rebounds on 7 of 13 from the floor. On the season, K-State is averaging 66.1 ppg on 41 percent shooting.
K-State opened up a two-point favorite in this one and in their only contest of note, they got smoked by 27 against an unranked Georgetown. And the Rebels look strong with two solid wins over Georgia Tech and Penn State, not to mention they’re averaging 16 more points per outing. The points are the play.
