The Thompson-Boling Arena and the Tennessee Volunteers host instate rival the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
Tennessee Tech is one of those teams where you never know where they are until conference play begins. The Golden Eagles win some and lose some against similar competition which tells us they have been competitive but that's about it until they face a bigger name TTU had won consecutive games before dropping an 87-78 decision at Lipscomb. The Bison shot at 45.5% from the field with Tennessee Tech countering with 39%. The key here was Lipscomb held small advantages in many areas which added up to a win. Josiah Moore was top man for the Golden Eagles with 12 points with Dennis Ogbe and Ladon Carter tossing in ten points each followed by Dwan Campbell and Ty Allen win nine each with Campbell snagging 13 boards.

If momentum is real then it should be on the side of Tennessee following convincing victories over Xavier and Wake Forest last time out. The Volunteers have shown plenty of scoring and defensive potential with both being at their best in an 82-63 rout of the Demon Deacons on the road. The offense took care of business with 53% from the field including a 28-36 mark from the charity stripe while committing only seven turnovers. Wake hit at 42% and sank eleven free throws and couldn't keep up. Jarnell Stokes was the star of the game with 21 points and ten rebounds Darius Thompson tossing in 16 followed by a combined 19 points from Jordan McRae and Jeronne Maymon with the latter grabbing six boards.
