The Valparaiso Crusaders and the St. Louis Billikens face off on Saturday in college basketball action.
The Valparaiso Crusaders are off to a 6-4 stat to the season but they have won four of their last five games. Three of Valpo’s four losses have been on the road as they have gone 5-1 at home this season. LaVonte Dority is averaging is averaging 15.5 points per game and is the Crusaders leading scorer. Alec Peters is averaging 14.5 points and 4.8 rebounds, Jordan Coleman is averaging 12 points and 4.9 rebounds, and Bobby Capobianco is averaging 9.2 points. Valpo is averaging 84.3 points and they are shooting 51.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.8 points and their opponents shoot 38.5 percent. Valparaiso should be competitive in the Horizon League this season.

The St. Louis Billikens are 7-2 on the season losing two of their last four games. While the Billikens don’t fly under the radar both of their losses have come to quality teams: Wisconsin and Wichita State. Dwayne Evans leads St. Louis in scoring averaging 15.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Jordair Jett is averaging 0.6 points and 4.2 assists, Mike McCall Jr. is averaging 10.3 points, and Rob Loe is averaging 9.0 points and 5.6 rebounds. St. Louis is averaging 71.4 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 57.7 points and their opponents shoot 39 percent from the floor. St. Louis should be a factor once again this March.
Valparaiso is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, 1-4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record. St. Louis is 20-7 against the spread following a win, 2-5 against the spread against the Horizon League, and 0-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
St. Louis’ losses have both come against big names in college basketball and while Valpo is no pushover I am going with St. Louis here.
