The Holmes Center will be buzzing when their own Appalachian State Mountaineers clash with the Charlotte 49ers.
It's been a solid start for Charlotte thus far at 6-2 including a two point win over Michigan. However a six game winning streak came to an end in an 87-78 overtime loss to Davidson. Both ends of the floor had some problems with Davidson hitting shots at a 50.7% pace while the offense turned the ball over 14 times and hit at 41.7% from the floor with a 25-12 edge at the line keeping them in the game. Terrance Williams led five double digit scorers with 16 points and 7 rebounds with Willie Clayton adding 16 points and 12 boards and Ben Cherry tossing in 14. Shawn Lester and Denzel Ingram netted 13 and ten points while the entire seven man rotation managed to score.

If you look over what Appalachian State has done through seven games you will see a team that has put up points at times but allows plenty of them with opponents sinking half their shots. That would explain their record but not explain why a 78-70 decision over sub division Greenville was on the tense side of things. The Crusaders made 43% of their looks and held ASU to 36% shooting and held their own in most areas except for 14 giveaways and at the strioe where the Mountaineers turned 30 Crusaders penalties in to a 25-7 edge which secured the victory. Mike Neal was the offensive star with a game best 27 points followed by a 19 point, six pull effort from Tevin Baskin while Michael Obacha chipped in with eleven points and hauled in 16 rebounds.
Charlotte has the better numbers but that doesn't always translate in to good things especially on the road. I'll back what I know but this doesn't right...
