The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Seton Hall Pirates face off on Sunday Night in a college basketball battle of New Jersey schools.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have lost four of their last five games and it looks like it is going to be a long season in Piscataway. Rutgers are just 4-3 at home this season and they look to improve on that number here. Kademm Jack leads RU averaging 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds. Myles Mack is averaging 15 points, J.J. Moore is averaging 13.1 points, and Jerome Seagears is averaging 10.3 points and 4.7 assists. Rutgers is averaging 78 points and they are shooting 45 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 77.1 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Rutgers opens AAC play on January 1 with Temple and then faces Louisville.

The Seton Hall Pirates are 5-3 for the season and they have alternated wins and losses their last five games. This is Seton Hall’s second true road game of the year and they are 0-1 on the road so far. Sterling Gibbs is averaging 14.6 points and 4.4 rebounds to lead SHU. Fuquan Edwin is averaging 13.8 points, Brian Oliver is averaging 10.6 points, and Gene Teague is averaging 8.1 points and 7.6 rebounds. Seton Hall is averaging 77 points and they are shooting 43.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.9 points and their opponents are shooting 44.7 percent. Seton Hall begins Big East play on New Year’s Eve against Providence.
Rutgers is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against the Big East, 4-11 against the spread in their last 15 home games, and 5-16 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread. Seton Hall is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games, 2-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games. The underdog is 21-8 against the spread in the last 29 meetings of these two.
I am not sure how nor why Rutgers is favored here but I am not going to worry about it either as I am just going to take the points and Seton Hall.
