The 20th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs eye their fifth straight victory when they meet West Virginia Tuesday night in their stiffest road test of the season.
Gonzaga has won four in a row since their upset loss to Dayton in the EA Sports Maui Invitational Nov. 25, routing Chaminade and Coppin State by 32 and 35 points respectively and beating New Mexico State and Arkansas by 12 and 10 points. In their last outing against New Mexico State Saturday, the Bulldogs outshot the Aggies from the floor 48 percent to 42 percent and from beyond the arc 40 percent to 35 percent. Senior C Sam Dower had a game-high 22 points on 55 percent shooting and added 5 rebounds, while junior G Kevin Pangos had 15 points, 9 boards and hit 3 of 4 from downtown. Gonzaga led 31-30 and trumped a poor shooting first half, in which they shot 35 percent, with a lights out 64 percent in the second. On the season, the Zags rank 5th in the nation at an average of 90.4 ppg and first in field goal percentage at 54. Pangos leads the team with 19.8 ppg on 50 percent from the floor and 50 percent from downtown.

Meanwhile, West Virginia comes in with a record of 6-3 and losers in two of their last three, including an 80-71 loss to Missouri last Thursday. The Mountaineers hit 27 of 65 from the field and just 4 of 19 from beyond the arc, while the Tigers shot 52 percent from the floor and 31 percent from downtown. Junior G Juwan Staten had a team-high 16 points on 5 of 13 shooting and hit 5 of 8 from the foul line and sophomore G Terry Henderson added 14 points. West Virginia used a 17-5 run to close within 75-67 with just over one minute remaining, but the Mountaineers could get no closer.
The line in this one currently favors Gonzaga by 2 points and the oddsmakers are clearly calling this one a tossup. If the Mountaineers start the game as cold as they did last time out, it’s a Zags blowout for sure. Gonzaga covers, either way.
