The Evansville Purple Aces go on the road to tangle with the Xavier Musketeers at the Cintas Center.
Evansville has generally been a team dependent on their offense as they try to out core opponents. That appears to be their MO once again because the offense has come to life in the victories and not so much in defeats. The Purple Aces snapped a three game slide with a 78-65 decision over visiting Miami (Ohio) as they made a ten point half time lead hold up behind red hot 53% shooting. The Redhawks stayed reasonably close with 39% shooting that saw 14 more looks thanks to 19 Evansville giveaways but the Purple Aces owned a 28-12 edge at the line which was decisive. DJ Balentine paced the attack with 22 points followed by Egidijus Mockevicius with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Duane Gibson and Blake Simmons added 12 and ten points.

Xavier left the Atlantic ten for the Big East and it will be interesting to see how they fit in their new suroundings after being one of the elite in the A-10. The Musketeers have looked both good and bad in the early going and escaped disaster with an 85-73 overtime victory against Bowling Green. XU burned the nets at 55% marksmanship with the Falcons connecting at 38% but stayed close with 15 extra looks at the basket before superior shooting won out. Semaj Christon led the Musketeers offense with the duo of James Farr and Isaiah Philmore with 15 points apiecewith Farr grabbing nine rebounds while Myles Dave tossed in another 14 points. Altogether nine players received minutes and eight scored.
I think backing Evansville is hoping they score because the Musketeers will. I'm not much of a favorite type bettor but I'll back the team that is 6-0 at home...
