The North Dakota State Bison travel to Notre Dame to play the Fighting Irish on Wednesday night.
North Dakota State improved to 6-3 on the year after beating Bryant 66-62 on Saturday. The Bison shot over 43% from the field and only 27% from three-point range. North Dakota State held Bryant to 41% from the field and 26% from behind the arc, while holding a 43-29 rebounding edge. Senior F TrayVonn Wright scored a team-high 18 points, while senior F Marshall Bjorklund added 15 points. Senior G Taylor Braun added 14 for the Bison, who extended their winning streak to four games while ending the Bulldogs’ at four. On the year, Braun averages a team-high 16.6 points and 4.1 assists per game, while Bjorklund is averaging 14 points per game. The Bison have only played one really good team this year, Saint Mary’s on the road, where they lost by 13 points. This will be North Dakota’s toughest test so far and they will be on the road for the sixth time this season; the Bison are 3-2 on the road thus far.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish improved to 7-2 on the year after beating Bryant 70-59 on Monday night. The Fighting Irish shot only 40% from the field and 31.6% from three-point range. Notre Dame did knock down 20 free throws, as they shot nearly 77% from the charity stripe. Senior G Jerian Grant led the team in scoring with 23 points, while junior G Pat Connaughton added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Irish. Senior C Garrick Sherman also chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Turnovers in the second half allowed Bryant to stay within reach along with great shooting from the perimeter. On the year, Grant leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game, while Sherman averages a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game and Grant averages 6.2 assists. Notre Dame’s only two losses came against Indiana State and on the road at Iowa. The Irish will have to play better than they did Monday night to come away with a win at home against the Bison.
Notre Dame has a solid team this year but they have struggled at times when their shots aren’t falling. The Irish are a very good rebounding team and North Dakota State will be in trouble if they can’t hit the boards in this one. Saint Mary’s dominated the glass against the Bison earlier in the year and the Bison were blown out on the road. I think North Dakota State will keep things interesting for the first half of play but Notre Dame will pull away late for the win and cover.
