The 4-7 IUPUI Jaguars face a tough road test Saturday as they visit the Bradley Center to face the 5-4 Marquette Golden Eagles at 3PM on Fox Sports 1.
IUPUI has now won three in a row after an early season drought saw them drop 4 straight. The Jaguars most recent victory came Tuesday with a dominant win over non-D1 Cincinnati Christian. The Jaguars shot the ball very well all game long and surged to 51 halftime points before letting their reserved bring the win home late. Ian Chiles led all scorers with 22 points and added 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Donovan Gibbs led all rebounders with 11 off the bench and IUPUI owned a 41-26 edge on the glass for the game. Despite shooting 57% from the floor, the Jaguars will need to improve at the line against tougher competition as they finished just 10-17 from the charity stripe for the game.

Marquette has had an up and down start to the year and hope to find their groove soon with conference play looming. The Golden Eagles have had to overcome the loss of some key veteran scorers who departed via graduation and their inability to have a go to guy reared its head this past weekend as the Golden Eagles fell to in state rival Wisconsin 70-64. Marquette kept it close all game but was unable to convert key buckets late as the Badgers held on. Jamil Wilson had 22 for Marquette and DeVante Gardner added a solid 16 off the bench. Marquette won the turnover battle and narrowly held an advantage on the boards but committed a whopping 25 team fouls -- leading to Wisconsin’s strong showing of 19-23 from the line -- the likely difference maker in the game.
Some trends to consider - IUPUI is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 road games and Marquette is 4-1 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.
Despite their struggles early this year, the Golden Eagles are a completely different team at home and I expect Saturday’s contest to be no different. Look for a big game from DeVante Gardner down low and the Marquette defense to fluster a thin IUPUI backcourt as Marquette rolls to the cover in front of the home town crowd.
