The West Virginia Mountaineers face instate rival the Marshall Thundering Herd at the Cam Henderson Center.
West Virginia appears to be a competitive team but have yet to beat any of the bigger names on their schedule. The Mountaineers have dropped three of four with the losses coming to Wisconsin, Missouri and Gonzaga which is a tough trio. Gonzaga slipped by 80-76 in a nip and tuck contest where WVU led by four at the half despite 37% from the floor with the Bulldogs checking in at 44%. That was about the biggest difference in an other wise tight boxscore where the Zags mustered a few more baskets. Eron Harris poured in a game high 23 points with Juwan Staten checking in with 17 points and nine rebounds followed by a 15 point, five pull effort from Terry Henderson.

I know Marshall lost some talent which has attributed to their 4-5 start but I'm not sure where this team goes from here. Scoring the basketball looks like a strength but preventing opponents from doing the same hasn't been. The Thundering Herd look to snap a three game slide following a 90-77 defeat at Penn State in which they trailed by 15 going to the locker room. The Nittany Lions hit shots at a 48.5% clip with the visitors struggling to only 39% with a 16-30 mark at the charity stripe leaving plenty of points on the floor. TyQuane Goard was the game's leading scorer with 28 points and five helpers with the duo of Elijah Pittman and Shawn Smith adding ten points apiece with Smith snagging five rebounds.
This seems like a lot of points between in state rivals but I think the spread is about right. If this were on a neutral floor I would really like West Virginia but I'm just luke warm on them here...
