The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Princeton Tigers face off on Saturday in Happy Valley in college basketball action.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are off to an 8-3 start as they hope this is the year they can get back to being competitive in the Big Ten PSU has suffered some big injuries in the past and this year’s team looks to be fairly solid. D.J. Newbill is averaging 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds to lead the Nittany Lions. Tim Frazier is averaging 17.9 points and 7.7 assists, Ross Travis is averaging 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds, and Brandon Taylor is averaging 11 points and 4.7 rebounds. Penn State is averaging 80.5 points and they are shooting 46.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.7 points and their opponents are shooting 40.6 percent. The Princeton Tigers are 7-1 on the season and appear to be ready to compete for an Ivy League title this season. Princeton’s lone loss this season was a three-point loss to Butler. T.J. Bray is averaging 16 points and 5.8 assists to lead the Tigers. Denton Koon is averaging 12.4 points, Hans Brase is averaging 11.9 points and 6.5 rebounds, and Ben Hazel is averaging 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Princeton is averaging 72.1 points and they are shooting 45.6percent while defensively they are allowing 62.9 points and their opponents are shooting 43.1 percent. Princeton is shooting better than 40 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
Penn State is 6-0 against the spread in their last six home games, 6-1 against the spread against the Ivy League, and 15-5-1 against the spread in their last 21 games. Princeton is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 42-18 against the spread in their last 60 road games, and 1-6 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread.
