The 11th-ranked Wichita State Shockers look to keep surging when they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday.
Wichita State is 10-0 and edged high-flying Tennessee 70-61 Saturday behind 19 second-half points from Tekele Cotton after the junior guard was held scoreless in the first half. Cotton also added 5 rebounds and hit 9 of 11 from the foul line. The two sides traded baskets for much of the first half and the Volunteers took a 26-25 lead into the break. The ebb and flow continued in the second half with neither team able to open up a significant gap until Cotton connected on a three-point basket at the 5:38 mark, which sparked a 7-0 run that pushed the lead to 58-49 and the Vols were unable to answer. Senior F Cleanthony Early had 13 points on 6 of 15 shooting and junior F Darius Carter added 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Shockers outshot the Vols from the field 43 percent to 38 percent and from beyond the arc 37 percent to 30 percent. On the season, Wichita State is averaging 77.6 ppg on 45 percent shooting and sophomore G Ron Baker leads the team with 14.6 ppg on 50 percent from the floor.

Meanwhile, Alabama comes in with a record of 5-4 and followed a two-game skid with wins in two of their last three, including a 59-45 victory over Charlotte Southern on Saturday. Sophomore G Retin Obasohan led the Crimson Tide with 22 points and 9 rebounds on 4 of 10 shooting, while junior G Rodney Cooper added 16 points, 7 boards and hit 4 of 7 from downtown. Alabama struggled to pull away from the Buccaneers until an 11-2 run at the midway point of the second half swelled the lead to 44-34 and the Tide were never threatened from there. Through nine games, Alabama is averaging 74.7 ppg on 45 percent shooting and senior G Trevor Releford leads the team with 16.4 ppg on 48 percent from the field.
Wichita State opened up a 2.5 point favorite here and this looks to be a stiff road test for the Shockers. Alabama played both Duke and Oklahoma tight and took Drexel and S. Florida to the wire in narrow two-point losses, while Wichita State was lucky to escape St. Louis and Tennessee. The upset potential looks good here so Bama gets the lean in a tossup.
