The Cincinnati Bearcats and the Pittsburgh Panthers face off on Tuesday in Madison Square Garden in college basketball action.
The Cincinnati Bearcats have lost two in a row and simply looked to have no answers in their last outing losing to crosstown rival Xavier. UC is 0-1 in neutral site games this year and Mick Cronin’s team looks to be in a rebuilding year. Sean Kilpatrick leads the Bearcats averaging 19.3 points per game. Justin Jackson is averaging 9.6 poitns and 6.4 rebounds, Titus Rubles is averaging 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds, and Troy Caupain is averaging 7.2 points. The Pittsburgh Panthers appear to be back on the college basketball map and whole they haven’t played a tough schedule they have taken care of business against those who have been put in front of them. Jamie Dixon’s team has plenty of tests in front of them in the ACC this season and they have taken the one game at a time approach that appears to be working for them. Lamar Patterson leads Pitt averaging 16.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Talib Zanna is averaging 12.7points and 7.9 rebounds, Cameron Wright is averaging 11.9 points, and Durand Johnson is averaging 9.6 points. Pittsburgh is averaging 82.6 points and they are shooting 49.5 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 61.6 points and their opponents are shooting 40.3 percent. After a down season Pitt looks to get back to the NCAA Tournament and make some noise.
Cincinnati is 3-10 against the spread in their last 13 games, 15-6 against the spread in their last 21 neutral site games, and 0-6 against the spread following a loss. Pittsburgh is 1-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, and 0-4 against the spread following a win. The underdog has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Cincinnati hasn’t played well but Pittsburgh hasn’t been tested and in a series where the dog covers 80 percent of the time the points look to be a nice play.
