The Cal Poly Mustangs will be on the road to face the Loyola Marymount Lions at Gersten Pavilion.
I think the biggest hurdle for Cal Poly is finding some consistent offense to support a solid defense. The defensive end of the floor is where this team will live or die with a questionable attack although the D received some support in an 85-49 rout of sub division CSU Dominguez Hills. The Mustangs connected at 49% including 12-24 from long range while the defense held the Toros to 39% from the floor and forced 21 turnovers. David Nwada led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds with the duo of Taylor Sutlive and Kyle Odister tossing in 14 points each followed by Chris Eversley who chipped in with ten points and grabbed six boards.

Loyola Marymount can certainly score the basketball but the problem is that opponents can as well. That could make life difficult in the West Coast where a number of teams can shoot and score. It was also a problem in an 80-73 loss at Valparaiso where the Lions led by ten at the break but couldn't control the Crusaders scoring over the final 20 minutes. LMU defended the shot well at 38% but 26 personals led to Valpo holding a decisive 32-19 adantage at the charity stripe. Anthony Ireland led three double digit scorers with 18 points and eight assists with Evan Payne and Gabe Levin adding 12 and eleven points respectively while Marin Mornar and Alex Osborne contributed eight points apiece.
These teams are at opposite ends of the scale with Cal Poly leaning on their defense and Loyola Marymount leaning on their scoring. A slight lean to defense here...
