The Michigan State Spartans and the North Florida Osprey face off on Tuesday in East Lansing in college basketball action.
The Michigan State Spartans are 8-1 on the season and ranked fifth in the nation. As usual MSU looks to be facing one of the tougher schedules in the country and with Texas up next and coming off of a poor performance against Oakland this should give Sparty a place to work on some things. Gary Harris is questionable for this one and he is the Spartans leading scorer averaging 17.6 points per game. Keith Appling is averaging 16.9 points and 5.1 assists, Adreian Payne is averaging 16.3 points and 8.0 rebounds, and Branden Dawson is averaging 10 points and 9.3 rebounds. Michigan State averages 81.4 points per game and they are shooting 48.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.8 points and their opponents are shooting 39.1 percent. Michigan State is the top team in the nation in assists and they are always among the leaders in rebounding.

No one can accuse the North Florida Ospreys of being afraid to play anyone as their schedule looks like a who’s who of college basketball. In just their last four games UNF has played Ohio State, Indiana, and Alabama and now have this one. Dallas Moore is averaging 11.8 points to lead the Osprey. Travis Wallace is averaging 11.6 points and 7.3 rebounds, Beau Beech is averaging 9.0 points, and Charles McRoy is averaging 7.2 points. North Florida is averaging 72.6 points per game and they are shooting 44.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 76.1 points and their opponents are shooting 46.3 percent. North Florida is hoping it is just a matter of time before they can pull an upset against one of the big names on their schedule that would put them on the college basketball map.
Michigan State is 2-5-2 against the spread in their last nine non-conference games, 3-8-3 against the spread following a win, and 2-5 against the spread in a home game against a team with a winning percentage less than .400. North Florida is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 6-1 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, and 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 road games.
This is just a ton of points and while there is a huge difference in these teams Michigan State rarely plays to their own level and usually plays to their level of competition whether it be up or down.
