The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Manhattan Jaspers face off on Tuesday in Columbia in college basketball action.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have played a tough schedule out of the gate but all they have to show for it at this point is a 2-3 record. SC are 2-0 at home this season but Frank Martin’s team is 0-3 on the road. Tyrone Johnson leads the Gamecocks averaging 12.2 points and 4.4 assists per game. Sindarius Thornwell is averaging 11.8 points, and Demetrius Henry and Brenton Williams are averaging 8.4 points per game. South Carolina are averaging 67.8 points and they are shooting 41.7 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 66.4 points and their opponents are shooting 39.2 percent. South Carolina’s schedule pays out a little easier until they begin SEC play on January 8th.

The Manhattan Jaspers have won their last four games in a row and are 7-2 for the season. Manhattan hasn’t lost on the road this season going 6-0 and they have played a reasonable 156th ranked schedule in the nation. George Beamon is averaging 20.3 points and 7.3 rebounds to lead the Jaspers. Michael Alvarado is averaging 11 points, Rhamel Brown is averaging 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds, and Shane Richards is averaging 8.2 points. Manhattan is averaging 76.2 points and they are shooting 42.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.7 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent. Manhattan has already started MAAC play and they are off to a 2-0 start in the conference.
South Carolina is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 home games, 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 1-5 against the spread following a loss. Manhattan is 4-1-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 13-5-2 against the spread in their last 20 games, and 1-4-1 against the spread following a win.
South Carolina is favored here but look for their troubles to continue as even if they manage to win, not a given, I don’t see a cover.
