The Drake Bulldogs will play host to the Western Michigan Broncos at the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday night.
The visiting Broncos have yet to pick up a win on the road thus far in the young season, but in their last game, they battled #24 Missouri for most of the game, where Missouri holds the nation’s longest current home winning streak. That might give Western Michigan some confidence heading into this one.

The problem with them is that they struggle mightily from 3 point land (29%), so they may need to go to Shayne Wittington, the team’s 2nd leading scorer with 15.9 points per game and swipes an average of 11 boards per game. Senior guard David Brown has been the main cog for this team offensively with 19.9 ppg.
Drake has a 2-1 record at home but has not been tested much, as they will face a team with similar talent. Drake has been known as a perimeter-minded team in recent history, and will try to hike up their 39% 3-point percentage, which is low for how they’re capable of shooting. Senior Richard Carter has been the spark on offense, as the team’s only double-digit scorer at 20.3 per game. Unfortunately they lost perhaps their best all-around player, Gary Ricks Jr. for the season due to injury. They do rotate often and have 10 guys that log 10+ minutes per game so there is no shortage of depth.
I don’t see a whole lot of disparity between these two teams, but the better shooting team on paper is Drake. Losing one of their best players for the season doesn’t help, but they will learn to gel together before conference play starts. Just a lean on the points with Western Michigan though.
