The Xavier Musketeers travel to Alabama to play the Crimson Tide on Saturday.
Xavier improved to 8-3 on the year after beating their rival Cincinnati 64-47 last weekend. Xavier shot over 56% from the field and an incredible 68.8% from three-point range. The Musketeers won despite missing top scorer Semaj Christon for most of the game because of foul trouble. Justin Martin stepped up and matched a career high with 17 points for Xavier, who hit 11 three-pointers and dominated their crosstown rival on the boards. On the year, Christon leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game, while Stainbrook averages 9.7 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per contest. The Musketeers are averaging 73.8 points per game and shooting an impressive 48.3% from the field this season. Xavier is good team when it comes to distributing the basketball and they also crash the glass well, averaging 38.5 rebounds per game. This will be Xavier’s first true road game of the season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped to 5-5 on the year after losing to Wichita State 72-67 on Tuesday night. Alabama shot over 43% from the field, but only 35% from long distance. Trevor Releford led the Crimson Tide with 22 points after missing the Charleston Southern game with a hip injury. Releford also had 6 assists and made 3 three-pointers but was scoreless in the first 14 minutes of the game. On the year, Releford is leading the team in scoring with 17 points per game, while Obasohan is chipping in with 14.5 points per game. Releford also leads the team with 2.7 assists per game. The Crimson Tide are averaging 73.9 points per game and are shooting over 45% from the field this season. Alabama has lost to some good opponents this year in Duke, Drexel in overtime, and most recently Wichita State. This will be Alabama’s seventh road game of the year; the Crimson Tide are 5-1 at home this season.
These two teams last played back in 2006 where Alabama won by 7 points. The Crimson Tide will be hungry for a win after losing a tough game to Wichita State this week. With Releford fully healthy the Crimson Tide are a dangerous team at home against any opponent. Xavier is playing some good ball right now and they are extremely efficient of the offensive end of the floor. I think this game will be close and I’ll take the points with the road dog in this one.
