The Fairfield Stags visit the Resche Center to face the Green Bay Phoenix in Saturday action.
Fairfield is obviously rebuilding and their record reflects that. The Stags could use a boost in all areas with a little more consitent scoring in the half court to help out the defense. FF looked like the same team from the last few years in a 64-60 decision over Northeastern that halted a seven game slide. A ten point lead at the half held up with the Huskies held to 39% shooting while Fairfield hit at 45% with Northeastern going 24-40 at thhe line to blow their chances. The Stags were led by a game high 23 points and six yanks from Marcus Gilbert with Maurice Barrow tossing in 20 points. Nine players received floor time and eight found the scoring column.

As one of the favorites in the Horizon I have expected big things from Green Bay and they responded with a win over Virginia and a close loss to Wisconsin. However I have been waiting for a big win over a lesser light on the schedule and they delivered with 76-49 rout of visiting Tennessee Tech. A 41-21 second half run did the trick with the Phoenix burning the nets with 52% marksmanship while the Golden Eagles were stymied on 30% from the field. Tennessee Tech had no perimeter attack with a 1-16 mark on threes and were simple out shot with no double digit scorers. Keifer Sykes led the attack with 17 points with Vincent Garrett and Alec Brown adding 16 and 15 points with Brown snagging six boards.
I don't have a real edge here especially with the huge spread. If Fairfield can manage to slow down Green Bay they will cover and could back door them late as well. If the Phoenix perform at home as they did versus Tennessee Tech then this will be a long day for the Staggs...
