Sophomore F Georges Niang led Iowa State with 24 points and 2 steals. Junior F Dustin Hogue chipped in with 12 points and had a team-high 16 rebounds in the win. Iowa State is playing impressive basketball right now as they rank amongst the top ten in the country in a number of different statistical categories. The George Mason Patriots fell to 5-4 on the year after losing to Oklahoma almost two weeks ago. The Patriots shot only 30.2% from the field and 25% from the three-point range. George Mason allowed Oklahoma to shoot 48.3% from the field, but they only shoot 8% from behind the arc. Senior G Bryon Allen led the Patriots with 15 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the game. On the year, The Patriots do not look great on paper and rank near the bottom in most statistical categories. George Mason is only averaging 66.3 points per game and they are shooting 42.7% from the field as a team this season. Senior G Sherrod Wright averages a team-high 16.3 points per game, while Allen averages 11.9 points per game and a team-high 4.3 assists per contest. The Patriots will have had two weeks off to prepare and rest for this game. This will be George Mason’s second neutral site game, having lost to Oklahoma two weeks ago on a neutral court.
George Mason has had plenty of time off to rest and prepare for this matchup and they will need to play a perfect game to come away with a win. Iowa State has had a week off and will be eager to get back out on the court and score early and often. I just don’t think George Mason can keep up with this Cyclones squad that had become an offensive machine. Iowa State will have to get the job done away from home and I think they are up for the challenge. I’m siding with the Cyclones to win big in a high scoring game out in Hawaii.
