The Line: Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners +11 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The 5-6 Georgia State Panthers travel to San Antonio for a road contest against the 3-7 UTSA Roadrunners Sunday at 2PM.
Georgia State sits one game under .500 for the season and visit UTSA fresh off a win over in-state rival Georgia Southern 73-61. The Panthers were fueled by the solid scoring outputs of former high D-1 transfers Manny Atkins and Ryan Harrow. Atkins, the Virginia Tech transfer, led all scorers with 23 points and 12 boards and Ryan Harrow added 22 for GSU. The Panthers finished the contest just shy of 50% shooting and shot it a respectable 70% from the line. The Panthers will now need to find a way to translate their efforts at home to the road -- the Panthers are currently 0-5 for the season on the road.

UTSA has had their fair share of struggles so far this season as they sit at 3-7 and find themselves coming back home off a blowout loss at Cal State Bakersfield 90-64. The Roadrunners struggled mightily in this contest after the break as CSB racked up 51 points to UTSA’s 30. Keon Lewis and Jordan Sims were the lone standouts for UTSA -- the duo combined for 33 points and Phillip Jones added 13. UTSA needs to get better play at the point guard position if they hope to avoid their season unraveling before conference play even begins. Through 10 games, the Roadrunners rank 333rd in the country with just 9 team assists per game.
Some trends to consider -- Georgia State is 1-5 against the spread in their last 6 versus Conference USA and UTSA is 2-7 against the spread in their last 9 home games.
While Georgia State has struggled on the road in all of their contests this season, the Panthers are a more talented team and I like the veteran leadership and strong play of Atkins and Harrow to be the difference in this one. While the Panthers will grab their first win on the road, I can’t confidently pick a team to cover 11 given their struggles away from home this season -- UTSA with the late cover in a loss at home.
