The Akron Zips and Iowa State Cyclones face off on Monday in Hawaii in round two college basketball tournament action.
The Akron Zips led by just a point at the half against Oregon State but they were able to put the Beavers away in the second half cruising to the win. The win was the Zips fifth in a row and they are hoping it gives them the momentum they need in this one. Demetrius Treadwell leads Akron averaging 15.8 points and 8.9 rebounds and he scored 24 in the win on Sunday. Quincy Digs averages 12.5 points and 4.4 rebounds, Nyles Evans averages 8.2 points but he had 17 on Sunday, and Jake Kretzer is averaging 7.4 points. Akron is averaging 75.1 points and they are shooting 45.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.5 points and their opponents are shooting 43.4 percent. Akron was a NCAA Tournament team a year ago and they are hoping to be one again this season.

The Iowa State Cyclones led George mason as the half on Sunday by five points and they were able to extend the lead and get an comfortable win. ISU is undefeated and ranked 13th in the nation and are favored to win this tournament. Melvin Ejim is averaging 18 points to lead the Cyclones. Georges Niang is averaging 15.3 points and had 22 on Sunday, DeAndre Kane is averaging 14 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, and Dustin Hogue is averaging 13.1 points and 10.9 rebounds. As a team Iowa State is averaging 89.6 points and they are shooting 48.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 69.1 points and their opponents are shooting 38.8 percent. Iowa State’s schedule looks to be absolutely brutal this season.
Akron is 11-3-1 against the spread in their last 15 neutral site games, 28-13 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread, and 2-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
