The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks look for the upset victory as they visit the #1 ranked Arizona Wildcats Monday night from the McKale Center.
Northern Arizona picked up their 3rd win of the season this past week as they prevailed over Grand Canyon 63-61. The Lumberjacks got a late bucket from Max Jacobsen that sealed the win -- Jacobsen finished with 13 points and Aaseem Dixon added 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Northern Arizona forced Grand Canyon into 18 turnovers for the game and tallied 13 steals -- 5 of them by Aaseem Dixon. The win broke Northern Arizona’s 4 game losing streak and they hope to avoid a repeat of earlier this season where both wins were followed by a multiple game losing streak.

The Arizona Wildcats sit at the top of the college ranks at 12-0 and dominated the Southern Jaguars this past week 69-43. This contest was a snoozer as Arizona dominated from the jump and saw most of their entire roster get playing time as the result was well in hand by the half. Aaron Gordon led all scorers with 21 and 4 and Brandon Ashley added 11 and 10. Nick Johnson added 17 for the Wildcats who shot the ball 45% from the field. Arizona managed only three 3 pointers for the game and shot it just 59% from the line -- something the Wildcats will need to improve on as the competition stiffens in the coming weeks.
Some trends to consider -- Northern Arizona is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games and Arizona is 12-3 against the spread in their last 15 at home.
Arizona has held onto the #1 ranking for longer than any other team so far this season at one point and continue to show that they are one of the more talented, deeper teams in the nation. The Lumberjacks have virtually no shot in this one as Arizona’s frontcourt should be able to dominate in all facets and I expect them to -- another big game from Gordon and Ashley as the Wildcats blow this one open early in the second half to run away with the win and cover at home.
