The Boise State Broncos and the South Carolina Gamecocks square off in the Diamond Head Classic.
South Carolina hasn't stood out in any one are of the game and that's what their 3-5 record indicates. However, perhaps the worm has turned after the Gamecocks picked up a sizeable upset with a 78-71 decision over Saint Mary's which put a halt to a three game slide. The Gaels were expected to dominate but it was USC that burned the nets with 58% shooting and held SMC to only 40.7%. Tyrone Johnson paced a strong Gamecocks offense with 16 points followed by Sindarius Thornwell with 13 points and five yanks while Laimonas Chatkevicius and Duane Notice contributed 12 and eleven points with Chatkevicius snagged seven boards.
In the early stages of 2013-14 Boise State has built a great record and have people believing they could challenge in the Mountain West but I need to see more. The Broncos knocked off Hawaii 62-61 to advance in the Diamond Head Classic which also got them back in the win column afte back to back defeats to Kentucky and Saint Mary's. In a battle of hal court attacks where both teams sank shots in the 46%-48% range the only significant difference was the Broncos 9-6 edge from long range. Anthony Drmic was the offensive star of the game with 21 points on 7-12 from the field with Ryan Watkins adding ten and Jeff Elorriaga chipped in with nine. Overall seven players scored in the eight man rotation.
This should be a good match up with the only thing these teams having in common being Saint Mary's who Boise State lost to. No line is out but I would expect South Carolina to be a small dog... (bigger spread then I thought so I'll take them)
