The 5-7 Illinois-Chicago Flames visit Colorado Springs to battle the 7-4 Colorado State Rams Monday night at 9PM.
UIC saw their two game winning streak come to an end this past week in heartbreaking fashion as UC Riverside stole a win with a layup with 2 seconds left that secured a 57-56 defeat for the Flames. This game was a defensive struggle as both teams did not shoot it well and the squads traded buckets with UC Riverside fortunately having the last possession. Kelsey Barlow led the way for the Flames with 17 points and a solid 8 boards from the guard spot. Hayden Humes and Jordan Harks combined for 21 points and the flames shot it 39% from the field for the game. UIC’s 10 total assists were one shy of their 11.1 assists per game average which ranks 293rd nationally. UIC will look to move to .500 away from home versus the Rams.

Colorado State moved to 7-4 with a loss to in-state Denver 80-70 over a week ago. The loss marked the Rams second in the past three games and their second home loss of the season. The Rams trailed by 2 at the break but failed to stop Denver’s hot shooting in the second half as the Pioneers pulled away late. Four Colorado State starters finished in double figures with Daniel Bejarano’s 17 leading the way. Bejarano also added 12 boards -- no other ram finished with more than 4. Colorado State managed to fall short despite shooting 54% from the floor and 50% from deep.
Some trends to consider -- UIC is 7-0 against the spread in their last 7 road games and Colorado State is 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 non-conference games.
Colorado State was solid in their loss to Denver and has now had 10+ days to prepare for their bounce back opportunity versus UIC. I like the Rams to be focused and ready to defend their home court Monday night. Behind another strong performance from Bejarano and JJ Avila, Colorado State gets the cover at home and pulls away in the second half to win by double digits in this one.
