The Fordham Rams host the Ramblers of Loyola University on Monday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym.
Fordham is coming off a road loss at Monmouth while Loyola just lost to a Northern Illinois squad who had not won a game on the road.
Fordham is led by 3 key players – Freshman Jon Severe (19.8 ppg), Senior Brandon Frazier (18 ppg), and Sophomore Thomas Mandell (14.3 ppg). They have outscored their opponents by less than a point, but seem to win the games they should win. A short trip to Syracuse ended in a 15 point loss which is nothing to scoff at. These guys hit their free throws (75%), which has helped them win in close game so far.
Meanwhile Loyola is 0-5 away from home (in Chicago). Their field goal percentage took a dip after last game. Prior to the game, they were hitting nearly 50% of their field goals, and even did so in the first half, but then shot 26% in the second half and were outscored by 20 by the Huskies. Their weakness is field goal percentage defense, as opponents make about 47% of their field goals. The Ramblers are also led in scoring by a freshman, Milton Doyle, who averages about 16 ppg. They need to get a boost from other teammates, as just 3 players average more than 10 points per game, and was their downfall last game.
The Fordham Rams have a clear edge playing at home in Bronx, NY. I am looking for them to come out strong and lead for most of the game in their last tune-up before the conference season commences in the Atlantic 10.
