The Loyola(IL) Ramblers visit Rose Hill Gymnasium in the Bronx for non-conference action against the Fordham Rams Monday at 4PM.
Loyola(IL) currently sits at 5-6 on the year and are coming off a tough loss to in-state foe Northern Illinois 55-49. The Ramblers completely fell apart in the second half after Northern Illinois poor shooting allowed for them to build a 28-14 lead at the break. Once the Huskies shots started falling, the Ramblers began to tighten up and Huskies re-gained the lead and pulled away. Christian Thomas led the way with 16 and 6 and Jeff White added 14 but the Ramblers once again were plagued by horrific bench play as six players combined for just 6 points. If the Ramblers cannot get more production from their reserves, they will continue to struggle both scoring the ball and winning games.
With conference play looming, Fordham is currently 6-4 on the year with their fourth loss coming this past week as Monmouth edged the Rams 87-78. Fordham built a 5 point lead at the break, but Monmouth heated up in the second half, going on a 17-1 run late in the game that put the Rams away. Not to be overlooked in the loss was the stellar play of Jon Severe -- Severe hit 8 threes and racked up 32 points but that was not enough down the stretch. Branden Frazier was the only other player in double figures for the Rams with 12.
Some trends to consider -- Loyola(IL) is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 Monday games and Fordham is 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 non-conference games.
These two teams are fairly evenly matched and rank similar in key statistical categories. The key for Fordham is their bench play -- if the Rams can get some production off the bench to help Severe, the Rams should be able to outlast the Ramblers at home. I think Fordham gets some additional production in this one and Severe goes for 20+ to pace Fordham to a cover and victory in front of the home court faithful.
