The Montana State Bobcats visit the UTEP Miners at the Don Hoskins Center Monday night at 9:05PM.
Montana State rides high into Texas after their best offensive outing of the season this past week. The Bobcats moved to .500 on the year with an offensive clinic in a win over SW Christian University 109-79. The Bobcats shot the ball 62% for the game and built a 14 point lead at the break behind the hot shooting of guard Stephan Holm. Holm finished with 18 points off the bench to lead all scorers and did so on 7-9 shooting and 4-5 from behind the arc. Eric Norman stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. On the glass, the Bobcats built a +19 advantage and controlled the pain all game long. Montana State has now won 3 in a row as they hit the road for this non-conference tussle.

UTEP is 7-5 on the year and are winners of two straight after a solid road victory over Washington State 64-51. This game was slow moving and fairly low scoring, with credit given to the Miners defensive effort. UTEP held Washington State to 21 first half points, 33% shooting and the Cougars aided the Miners by shooting just 36% from the line for the contest. Four of the Miners starters finished in double figures with Vince Hunter’s 15 and 8 leading the way. Julian Washburn and McKenzie Moore combined for an additional 27 points and 9 rebounds as well. UTEP returns home where they look for their 6th win in 7 tries this season.
Some trends to consider -- Montana State is 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 Monday games and UTEP is 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 Monday contests.
Montana State is playing their best ball of the season and have been pretty solid away from home. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, they have beaten nobody of note and UTEP is far and away the more talented team here. UTEP should be able to ball pressure effectively against the Bobcats smaller guards and the play of Vince Hunter and Julian Washburn should be the difference as the duo has become the most reliable tandem on Tim Floyd’s young team. UTEP with the win and cover at home.
