The Akron Zips match up with the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Diamond Head Classic.
The tournament started off well for Akron as they handled Oregon State by 12 but the tables were turned on them in an 83-60 thrashing from #14 Iowa State in the semifinals. The Zips trailed by six at the half before their defense and shooting abandoned them over the final 20 minutes. The Cyclones burned the nets at over 53% and outscored Akron 14-1 at the line and the Zips 37.5% shooting wasn't enough. Reggie McAdams led a trio of double digit scorers with 13 points followed by Quincy Diggs with 12 and Demetrius Treadwell with a ten point, seven rebound effort.

South Carolina looked really good in opening the Diamond Head Classic with a victory over Saint Mary's but they must have used up all their bullets as they fell 80-54 in the semifinals to Boise State. The Broncos jumped out to a 15 point lead at the half and were never in danger behind nearly 54% shooting while the Gamecocks countered with 37% accuracy and gave the ball away 16 times. That equated in to ten more field goals which was way too much for the cold shooting Gamecocks. Brenton Williams paced the offense with 14 points on 4-12 shooting with Duane Notice netting 13 points on 5-10 accuracy while Michael Carrera chipped in with eight. Scoring was a valuable commodity with Boise State refusing to miss and committing just nine turnovers.
The spread has not been released as of yet but I expect Akron to be favored. I would like to see the number before making a pick but I think the Zips win...
