The New Orleans Privateers shoot for a signature win over the #5 Michigan State Spartans.
I think their was a time when New Orleans basketball was dead in the water but I do see some life in them right now. Obviously there is a long way to go with help needed in most areas but a 71-69 win over UTEP was a nice step forward. The Privateers shot the ball about as well as they can at 51% with the Miners countering with a 44% effort which was decisive with NO going 8-20 from long range. The balanced attack featured 12 points apiece from Cory Dixon and Matt Derenbecker and a combined 15 rebounds while Tradarrius McPhearson and Isaac Mack added 21 points.

Michigan State is in a familiar position as they are both a contender in the Big Ten and a threat to take the National Championship. The Spartans can do it all and when both ends of the floor are on the same page this team is extremely difficult to deal with. Texas found that out the hard way in a 92-78 defeat in which they led by a basket at the half before MSU rode 50% shooting and solid defense to a second half rally for an easy win. The Longhorns were limited to 39% from the field and couldn't stop Adreian Payne who went off for 33 points and nine rebounds. Gary Harris tossed in 19 with the combo of Travis Trice and Branden Dawson adding 13 and eleven points with Dawson snagging ten boards.
This one will be a Michigan State cover if they desire because New Orleans doesn't compare talent wise. You have to ask yourself if Michigan State even cares if they win by 25 or 35 and they probably don't but I'm not paying to see whether they care or not...
