The Wake Forest Demon Deacons travel to Xavier to play the Musketeers on Saturday.
Wake Forest improved to 10-2 on the year after beating UNCG 59-51 last week. The Demon Deacons shot 44.9% from the field and only 14% from three-point range. Devin Thomas scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Wake Forest came up with several stops to weather a second-half rally by UNCG. Tyler Cavanaugh added 12 points and Codi Miller-McIntyre scored all of his 11 points in the second half for the Demon Deacons, who overcame a slow start to lead by as many as 12 points in the first half. On the year, Miller-McIntyre is averaging 17.5 points and 4 assists per game this year. Thomas is averaging 11.8 points per game and a team-high 9.8 rebounds per game. Wake Forest is a good rebounding team, pulling down 43.8 boards per contest this year. The Demon Deacons are averaging 77.5 points per game and are shooting 45.7% from the field. This will be the first true road game for the Demon Deacons.

The Xavier Musketeers improved to 9-3 on the year after beating Alabama 77-74 last week. Xavier shot 39.7% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point range. Isaiah Philmore had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Xavier to a come-from-behind win in Alabama. Matt Stainbrook added 17 points, Dee Davis had 12 and Myles Davis had 10 for the Musketeers. On the year, Semaj Christon averages a team-high 14.9 points per game, while Stainbrook averages 10.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game. Xavier is a good all-around team that is averaging 74.1 points per game and is shooting 47.5% from the field this season. Xavier has some quality wins over Cincinnati, Tennessee, and now Alabama. The Musketeers have lost to Iowa, Tennessee, and USC so far this season. Xavier is 6-0 at home and have blown out most of their opponents on their home floor this year.
Wake Forest is a decent team that will probably end up in the middle of the pack in the ACC this season. Meanwhile, Xavier has some serious talent on their team and they should make some noise come February and March. This will be Wake Forest’s first true road game and I think they will come out flat, while Xavier will come out firing on all cylinders. I’m taking the Musketeers to win and cover at home.
