The Miami Ohio Redhawks aim to fly high on Sunday afternoon as they face the visiting Southern Illinois Salukis at John D. Millet Hall.
Senior guard Desmar Jackson (20 ppg) has been pulling the load all season for the Salukis, and had an impressive stat line of 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists in their last game vs. SIU Edwardsville. Sophomore guard Jalen Pendleton has been pouring in 15 ppg in his last couple games and has been key when other teams have keyed into stoppin Jackson. Head Coach Barry Hinson’s bunch has played more inspired ball in the last two games and have responded well to his irate comments to the media in regards to his teams’ effort and output.

Miami Ohio is looking to feed off of a winning record at home (2-1). Senior Will Felder has been the spark for the Redhawks as the leader in points and rebounds per game. They have been outscored by an average of 9 points per game, but that is misleading since they lost a couple by 20+ to top notch programs such as Xavier and Arizona State. They shoot free throws well, but are not that strong offensively. They need to find ways to score from inside the three-point arc at just 24.8% on the season. A stat that jumps out at me is that they average 11.8 assists per game, but allow over 18 per game. They need to buckle down and limit teams that work the ball around to score. Fortunately, SIU is not that kind of team, though Coach Hinson is trying to get them to play more team-oriented basketball.
I’m not too sure about the outcome of this one. These two teams are not very good and either one has the capability of playing a really sloppy game. I will give the edge to Miami (OH) at home and to cover the small point spread.
